Course Syllabus

The course consists of the following six units:

Unit 1 – Introduction to Hotel Management

In the first unit, candidates are introduced to the concept of hospitality and how it applies to hotel management. Course content covers all essential basics, including the various departments within a hotel, the different types of hotel guests and the most popular/common accommodation types.

Unit 2 – Managing Front Office Operations

The core focus of the second unit is front office operations management, which incorporates an introduction to the organizational structure of the front office, the various reservation systems in use and the essential split between front-of-house and back-of-house responsibilities.

Unit 3 – Housekeeping, Engineering and Security

The second department visited is that of housekeeping, security and general hotel maintenance. Candidates gain essential insights into what exactly the housekeeping department does, how guest amenities are managed and the most important building and guest security considerations.

Unit 4 – Managing Food and Beverage Operations

A critically important element in any hotel, food and beverage operations are introduced in the fourth unit. Course content covers everything from menu planning to designing the restaurant and assessing guests’ need by way of analytical market research.

Unit 5 – Human Resource Management
