This Online Certificate Public Relations, course consists of the following four units:

Unit 1 – Introduction to Public Relations

In the first course unit, candidates are introduced to public relations and provided with a comprehensive overview of how, where and why PR fits in with contemporary corporate operations.  Additional concepts introduced include goal-defining strategies, how to create a professional PR plan, fragmentation and the selection of appropriate PR tactics.

Unit 2 – Creating Your Media Image

The importance of building and maintaining a strong media image represents the core focus of Unit 2, which guides candidates through the creation of an appropriate brand message, selecting the ideal spokesperson/s and the establishment of core media guidelines to work in accordance with.

Unit 3 – Managing the Media

Media management from a PR perspective continues into Unit 3, which shifts focus to the creation of catchy headlines, the power and purpose of press releases, how to effectively use sound bites, how to approach/address difficult questions and ultimately the options available when in a ‘no comment’ scenario.

Unit 4 – PR and Crisis Management

Rounding off the course, the fourth and final unit and examines crisis management from a PR perspective.  Candidates are guided through a series of critical teachings including business recovery and continuity, the most important elements of the professional crisis plan, the establishment and purpose of an emergency operations centre and the way in which social media and public relations are intrinsically linked.
