Why Study Construction Management?

Careers in construction management can be rewarding in a number of ways.  In terms of job opportunities, demand for talented personnel on a global basis is at an all-time high.  New and established organisations alike are constantly on the lookout for talented personnel to add to their ranks.  In addition, the construction industry is one of few sectors that are largely immune to the effects of political and economic uncertainty.  Even if things aren’t looking great at home, there’s a world of incredible opportunities to explore overseas.  Of course, there’s also the option of setting up solo - building your own consultancy or construction company from scratch.  To become a qualified and capable construction manager is to pave the way for a successful career for life.  One with limitless earnings potential for the most talented and tenacious candidates.

Course Syllabus

Our endorsed construction management courses have been designed specifically for home study, with no deadlines or time restrictions to worry about.  This intermediate Level 2 Construction Management Certificate takes place over a series of four modules, each concluding with an online assessment for submission to your assigned tutor:

Module 1 - Introduction to Construction Management

The fundamentals of construction management are presented and discussed in the first module, in which candidates also consider the objectives of construction management.  The art of effective delegation is also discussed, alongside the importance of efficiency and productivity, typical challenges to overcome in construction management and more.

Module 2 – Developing and Organisation of Construction Projects

Module two examines the first stages of the project planning process, considering the extent to which even the earliest decisions made can impact the entire project.  A detailed dissection of the construction project lifecycle is also presented, covering the initiation phase, the design and planning phase, and the execution and control phases.

Module 3 - Equipment Management

The advantages of an effective equipment management strategy are discussed in the third module, along with several common challenges to successful equipment management.  Course content covers equipment handling and storage, organising planned maintenance and repairs, management of a spare parts inventory, stock planning and dealing with faulty equipment.

Module 4 - Materials Management

Concluding the course, module four presents a series of best practice guidelines for efficient materials management.  The cornerstones of the effective materials management strategy are discussed, along with integrated materials management, the consequences of poor materials management and the fundamentals of warehousing and inventory management.
