Unit 1 - The Work Place Environment

The first course unit focuses on introducing beauty therapy in general, incorporating an exploration of general salon hygiene guidelines and personal appearance.  A variety of key health and safety matters are also touched upon.

Unit 2 - Related Anatomy and Physiology

Course content then moves on to provide a series of key insights with regard to anatomy and physiology, in relation to beauty therapy.  Candidates explore the way in which the skin, blood, bones and other anatomical areas play a role in external health and beauty.

Unit 3 - Consultation and Skin Analysis

An introduction to skin analysis follows in Unit 3.  Content covers asking clients the right questions, carrying out manual and visual examinations, the various steps in the consultation process and how to recognise a variety of skin types.  Candidates also explore an array of facial products and the functions they perform.

Unit 4 - How to Improve and Maintain Facial Skin Conditions

The fourth unit continues with the same theme, looking more closely and preparing the skin for facial treatments and how to actually go about a professional facial.  A series of crucially important concepts are introduced, including moisturising, exfoliation and effective skin cleansing.

Unit 5 - How to Improve Skin Conditions (Continued)

Building on the teachings of Unit 5, the following unit continues with an introduction to professional facial massage and facial mask therapy.  Candidates explore the various types of face masks used by beauty therapists, along with the correct approach to applying masks.

Unit 6 - Preparing Work Area and the Client for the Application of Make up

Essential cosmetics along with a variety of other salon tools and equipment are introduced in the sixth unit, which covers cosmetics for the eyes and lips along with common concealing cosmetics.  The unit’s content also introduces contouring.

Unit 7 - Professional Make Up Procedures

The seventh unit delves a little deeper into professional-level makeup application and how to properly use corrective make up in accordance with facial features and shape.  Candidates are guided through professional application of false eyelashes, photographic makeup and the application of makeup for special occasions.

Unit 8 - Manicure and Pedicure

Essential manicure and pedicure skills are covered comprehensively in Unit 8, which introduces candidates to the specifics of professional consultations, crucial hand and foot treatments, related salon equipment and the professional application of nail polish.
