Course Syllabus

This is an endorsed Level 2 Hotel Management Certificate, open for enrolment throughout the year with no entry-requirements to fulfil.  The content of the course is delivered over four detailed modules, each of which includes an online assessment for submission to your assigned tutor:

Module 1 - Introduction to Hotel Management

The course begins by presenting candidates with the fundamentals of hotel management, examining the responsibilities of the hotel manager and hospitality organisational structures.  The primary objectives of hotel management are also discussed, along with typical challenges in the field of hospitality management and the qualities of effective hotel managers.

Module 2 - Managing Front Office Operations

A detailed exploration of front office operations follows in module two, presenting candidates with the various duties and responsibilities handled by hotel receptionists.  An introduction to reservation systems and back office operations is also provided, along with how to work with front desk IT systems and the importance of coordinating front and back office activities.

Module 3 - Housekeeping, Engineering and Security

Module three brings housekeeping department management into discussion, detailing the most important housekeeping responsibilities and how to successfully lead a housekeeping team.  Candidates are also introduced to the basics of hotel security, maintenance and engineering, alongside the functions and objectives of an emergency communication plan.

Module 4 - Managing Food & Beverage Operations

Bringing the course to a close, module four discusses hotel restaurant and bar management.  The importance of accurate target audience identification is examined, along with the fundamentals of effective menu planning, restaurant layout and design considerations, cost control, budgeting and the use of IT systems in F&B departments.
