Unit 2 - Fashion Forecasting

In the second unit, candidates are introduced to the supremely important art of fashion forecasting. By gaining an understanding of fashion cycles, candidates develop the skills and knowledge required to predict and pre-empt future fashion.

Unit 3 - Elements of Design

In this unit, course content moves onto the four basic elements of design – Lines, Shapes, Colours and Textures. The importance of each in its own right and when used collaboratively with others must be understood by any professional fashion designer.

Unit 4 - Principles of Design

The fourth unit introduces the subject of key design principles and how they apply to all aspects of fashion design across the board. Principles investigated include emphasis, balance, harmony and repetition.

Unit 5 - Colour and Dress Designing

The importance of colour and understanding colour choices is introduced in the fifth unit. In addition to the basic principles of colour, this unit also provides candidates with an important introduction to colour application in regard to dress designing.

Unit 6 - Choosing the Right Material

Material choice represents the primary focus of unit six which provides crucial insights into a variety of common and rare fabrics, along with their respective properties and recommended uses. The unit also touches upon the subjects of testing, make-up and dying.

Unit 7 - Sewing Basics

The final unit of the course moves away from theoretical teachings to focus on the basics of sewing. Candidates are guided through the process of sewing seams, stitching by hand and safely using the tools and equipment of a professional sewing room.
