Unit 2. Working in the School

Attention then turns to the various challenges associated with working in an educational environment.  Candidates explore the role of the teaching assistant in supporting the delivery of the current curriculum, several key admin/clerical tasks covered by teaching assistants and the importance of the right approach/attitude when working in a school.

Unit 3. Working in the Classroom

Unit three then focuses on the more specific teaching assistant duties in a classroom setting.  Candidates learn how to work confidently and with a sense of authority in a classroom environment, while examining both the National Literacy Strategy and the National Numeracy Strategy.

Unit 4. Assessing Students’ performance

The importance of regularly and accurately assessing students’ performance is explored in unit four.  Course content covers the various different types of tests and examinations used to measure students’ performance, along with helpful techniques and guidelines for evaluating both individual and group performance in a classroom setting.

Unit 5. Supporting Pupils with Special Educational Needs

An introduction to special educational needs follows in the fifth unit, in which candidates are familiarised with the requirement for specialist support.  The importance of ensuring every pupil is provided with tailored support to suit their unique individual requirements is discussed in depth.

Unit 6. Personal Professional Development

Unit six focuses on personal professional development in the teaching assistant profession, providing candidates with helpful tips and guidelines to advance their careers.  A detailed breakdown of the effective personal development plan is presented, along with the importance of proactivity and professionalism as a teaching assistant.

Unit 7. Creating a Safe Learning Environment
