Course Syllabus

This management certificate online, consists of the following eight units:

Unit 1 - Understanding Management and Leadership

The introductory course unit provides candidates with a broad definition of leadership, while introducing the primary differences between management and leadership. Along with an overview of the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats matrix (aka SWOT Analysis), candidates explore a series of leadership challenges and the role of the manager/leader.

Unit 2 - Improving Management and leadership Performance

The following unit focuses on strategies and techniques for improving management and leadership performance – specifically focusing on key strategies for working with mental models. Course content dissect the various steps in creating a personal vision, along with shared vision phases and more.

Unit 3 - Change Management

An exploration of change and change management follows in Unit 3, which provides candidates with a broad overview of both the importance of change from a business perspective and associated responses. The basic characteristics and fundamentals of change management are broken down and explored, along with a variety of key factors, issues and challenges in relation to change management.

Unit 4 - Time Management

Course content then moves onto time management strategies and theory, guiding candidates through the importance of time management and a variety of techniques/approaches for making better use of available time. Additional subtopics introduced include the impact of e-mail on time management and the cost/consequences of poor time management.

Unit 5 - Managing Relationships

A discussion of stress management techniques and strategies follows in Unit 5, in which candidates also dissect and explore the relationship cycle. A series of approaches to effective problem solving are also explored, along with the importance of remaining calm under pressure.

Unit 6 - Strategic Planning

Course Unit 6 focuses on strategic planning, providing candidates with a detailed definition of the term and what it means from a modern management perspective. SWOT analysis is once again brought into the discussion, along with a series of essential insights on effective delegation and role selection. Delegation models are also introduced and explored.

Unit 7 - Giving Effective Feedback

The importance of providing effective feedback forms the primary core focus of Unit 7. Candidates learn how to produce and present proactive feedback in a mutually beneficial manner, along with a variety of feedback techniques and approaches. Course content also covers the ‘Seven Cs of Effective Communication’ – Clear, Concise, Concrete, Correct, Coherent, Complete and Courteous.

Unit 8 - Meeting Management

Brining the course to a close, Unit 8 provides candidates with a broad overview of meeting-management strategies, incorporating an exploration of each key stage from initial planning to post-meeting evaluation. Candidates are also introduced to continuous personal development theory and a series of associated teachings.
