This is an intermediate Level 3 Retail Management Certificate, designed for newcomers and existing retail workers alike.  Each of the five course modules concludes with an online assessment, which your assigned tutor will mark and return with helpful feedback:

Module 1. Essential Skills for Smart Selling                       

Module one offers a fascinating introduction to the art of ‘smart’ selling, providing candidates with tips and guidelines for becoming a more confident and effective seller.  The importance of building strong relationships with customers is also discussed, along with a detailed breakdown of the sales cycle and its primary components.

Module 2. Productivity Techniques for Maximum Selling

The importance of driving productivity and efficiency in a retail environment is examined in module two, introducing candidates to the concepts of cross-selling, up-selling and value-added selling.  Assessing and separating customers’ ‘needs’ and ‘wants’ is also discussed, alongside a series of common mistakes salespersons make and how they can be avoided.

Module 3. The Selling Process                                 

A more detailed breakdown of the selling process and its component stages is presented in the third module, in which candidates consider the difference between everyday sales and personal selling.  The traits and qualities of high-performance salespeople are explored, alongside an introduction to the basics of consumer protection and a series of selling theories.

Module 4. Dealing with Suppliers

Module four focuses primarily on the differences between purchasing and procurement, along with an overview of the procurement cycle and its functions in retail management.  Candidates learn how to effectively assess the performance of suppliers, choose the right suppliers for their businesses and consider the potential benefits of single sourcing.

Module 5. Dealing with the Management of Stock

The fifth and final module provides a detailed overview of inventory management activities and responsibilities in retail, detailing the various different types of stock and the benefits of achieving ‘economic order quantity’.  The potential consequences of stock shortages are also discussed, along with the costs associated with carrying too much stock and helpful guidelines for accurately balancing supply with demand.
