The first unit outlines the roles and responsibilities of the teaching assistant, along with the objectives and limitations of the services provided by the TA. Candidates explore the skills, talents and character traits of the professional teaching assistant, along with the impact the TA can have on the education and development of pupils of all ages.
The second unit examines the unique challenges that accompany working in an educational environment. Learners explore the various administrative and clerical duties carried out by teaching assistants, the role of the TA in ensuring satisfactory delivery of current curriculums and helpful guidelines for flourishing as a TA from day-one.
Attention then turns to the specifics of working in a classroom setting, which covers some of the most common challenges encountered by teaching assistants while performing their duties. Additional subtopics introduced include the National Literacy Strategy and the National Numeracy Strategy.
