Unit 1 - Understanding Management and Leadership

The course begins by providing candidates with an overview of both management and leadership, outlining how the two differ and their important roles in driving business interests. Course content introduces SWOT Analysis – aka the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats matrix – the limitations of leadership and a number of common management challenges.

Unit 2 - Improving Management and leadership Performance

Enhancing leadership performance and generally improving as a manager enters the discussion in Unit 2. The effective use of mental models from a management perspective is explored, along with creating a personal vision as a manager and how shared-vision collaboration can be advantageous for the business.

Unit 3 - Managing Resources

Couse Unit 3 focuses on effectively managing resources and how resource management in general can impact a wide variety of business applications. The resource management process is broken down into its core components and investigated at length, along with various common resource management challenges and the consequences of poor resource management.

Unit 4 - Managing Change

The following unit turns attention to change management, guiding candidates through the potential value of change and why all businesses/organisation rely on change in order to succeed. The ‘Change Cycle’ and its core components are discussed extensively, alongside how the pace of change can impact the business and why change management must be continuous.

Unit 5 - Managing Time

The importance of effectively managing time represents the primary core focus of Unit 5. Candidates are guided through a variety of workload-management strategies and time-prioritisation techniques, along with how the SPIRIT model – Specific, Prizes, Individuals, Review, Inspiring, Time-Bound – can play a role in time management. Additional subtopics introduced include batching techniques and an overview of key time-planning tools.

Unit 6 - Managing Conflict

Course Module 6 shifts focus to managing conflict from a supervisory perspective, investigating how proactive conflict management can yield positives from confrontation. A variety of common causes of conflict are discussed, along with the importance of identifying and addressing conflict at the earliest juncture, managing negative feelings, effective anger-management strategies and a breakdown of the ‘assertiveness formula’.

Unit 7 - Managing Meetings and Giving Feedback

Effective feedback techniques and professional management of meetings enter the conversation in Unit 7, which focuses specifically on how to plan and implement a variety of essential meetings. Candidates discover how feedback-provision plays a direct role in nurturing workforce growth and development, ultimately enhancing business performance.

Unit 8 - Principles of Project Management

A series of key project management principles follow in Unit 8, providing candidates with a comprehensive introduction to the duties and responsibilities of project managers. Additional concepts discussed at length include the eight aspects of projects, a dissection of the project management life cycle (initiation, planning, execution, closeout), the importance of projects in a business setting, why some projects fail, a variety of project planning tools, team development strategies, setting clear project goals and more.

Unit 9 - Risk Management

Bringing the course to a close, Unit 9 focuses on business risk management and the way in which effective risk-control can improve overall business operations. The correlation between risk and reward is investigated, along with the ‘Four Ts’ approach (Tolerate, Transfer, Treat, Terminate), an introduction to several types of risk management and how to create a workable risk management plan.
