This fashion design online course is divided into three modules:
Module 1 - Introduction to Fashion Design
The course begins by providing candidates with an introduction to the recent history of the fashion industry, incorporating an exploration of important design trends from a variety of influential periods. Candidates begin to build an understanding of the importance of contemporary and historical fashion awareness, along with why the fashion designer must know how to foresee future trends and movements.
Module 2 - Elements and Principles of Design
Course Module 2 focuses primarily on a number of critical important design elements and principles. Each of the four basic elements of design is explored and discussed – lines, shapes, colours and textures, along with the four essential principles of design – repetition, harmony balance and emphasis. Each design element and principle is explored uniquely and as a component in overall concept/vision.
Module 3 - The Use of Colour in Fashion Design
The closing course module centres primarily on the strategic and appropriate use of colour in contemporary fashion design. Candidates explore the concepts of colour clashes and cohesion, along with how to select colours appropriately in accordance with the garment being produced, its purpose and its target audience. The fundamentals of dress design are also introduced.

At the end of this course successful learners will receive a Certificate of Achievement by ABC Awards and a Learner Unit Summary (which lists the details of all the units you have completed as part of your course).
