Unit 1 – The Basics of HR Management

The introductory unit focuses on the fundamental basics of human resource management exploring the concepts of forecasting, emotional intelligence and job analysis.  Candidates begin to build an understanding of exactly what it is the HR manager is responsible for.

Unit 2 – Staffing the Organisation

The second unit moves on to begin investigating the recruitment process, introducing methods for finding appropriate candidates, the identification of job competencies and the creation of professional job descriptions and position profiles.  Candidates also explore employee turnover costs.

Unit 3 – Interviewing Techniques

The core focus of the third unit is the all-important job interview from the perspective of the human resource manager.  Candidates investigate various interview techniques, the ‘five criteria’ of interviews, professional interview format and a brief history of the modern interviewing process.

Unit 4 – Training and Development

The fourth unit follows on with an introduction to training and development, incorporating employee orientation, training cycles, working in conjunction with external providers and potential problems/challenges.

Unit 5 – Performance Management

Course content then moves onto the management of employee performance, including the conducting of performance reviews, behaviour evaluation and the creation of a professional performance management checklist.

Unit 6 – Managing Attendance and Rewards

Recognition, rewards and attendance management form the core focus of unit six which introduces candidates to the subjects of benefits, compensation, privacy, diversity attendance management and the true cost of employee absence.

Unit 7 – Managing Disciplinary Issues

In the seventh and final unit, disciplinary issues and the management thereof are examined more closely.  Candidates are introduced to employee contract termination, exit interviews and the importance of the four-step disciplinary system.
